EXPLORE THE NORTH EAST COUNTRYSIDE
Choose your challenge. 25K or the Ultra 55K distance.
Run, jog or walk along this stunning route exploring some of the North East's industrial heritage, glorious trails and wonderful woodland.
With the choice of the full 55K (approx. 34 miles) Ultra distance or 25K (approx. 15.5 miles), ULTRA NORTH is an ideal event for runners looking to discover new local routes, walkers wanting to set themselves a new challenge and for those looking to take on their first Ultra.
The course will be fully marked with both distances starting and finishing in Derwenthaugh Park.
Twice Brewed Brew House have joined as prize sponsors for 2021.
Winners of the NORTH 25 & ULTRA NORTH 55 will claim a 12 can case of a special running themed beer, with second and third places earning a 4 pack for their efforts.
ULTRA NORTH DISTANCES
The ULTRA NORTH 55 is a full ultra-marathon. The route will start and finish within Derwenthaugh Park.
The route follows the south side of the river through Gateshead, crossing the Millennium Bridge, then follows the north side of the river to Wylam before heading back into the Derwent Valley, using the Derwent Walk to reach the finish line.
The NORTH 25km journey also starts from Derwenthaugh Park, heading to the River Tyne, then south along the Derwent River before climbing up the Valley side then west towards Highfield.
A loop around Rowlands Gill leads back to Derwent Walk then back into Derwenthaugh Park and the finish line.

Whether you are a first-time ultra-marathoner, an experienced ultra-runner, looking for a shorter off road challenge or a walker, ULTRA NORTH is welcoming to and accessible to all.

As a volunteer you will receive an ULTRA NORTH t-shirt and be part of an amazing team of volunteers who help make the event and experience extra special. You can choose which checkpoint to help out at or select the finish line to be ready to greet our fantastic participants.

SPECTATORS & SUPPORTERS
ULTRA NORTH is a fantastic event, not only for participants but also for spectators and supporters.
The route is accessible for support crews at numerous points throughout its 25K and 55K journey, allowing your supporters to join you at multiple locations.
Alternatively, they can register interest in being one of the ULTRA NORTH team of volunteers.
Any social distancing guidelines in place at the time of the event will be strictly adhered to.
SOME RULES TO OBSERVE...
To ensure the safety and enjoyment of everyone taking part in the event, we would like to highlight some important information.
Covid-19 event protocol must be observed at all times (our protocol will match government regulations)
Please remember to be respectful to all other park and footpath users
There will be a zero-tolerance policy on littering. We are travelling through some of the North East's finest parks and wilderness areas. Please respect the environment and help keep it looking beautiful and enjoyable for all
You will need to bring your own collapsible cup - we won't be issuing plastic cups or bottles at the Checkpoints
Cut-off times will be strictly observed
