Starting and finishing in Derwentaugh Park, close to the Land of Oak and Iron Café (what3words location – book.venues.horses). ULTRA NORTH 55km and NORTH 25km participants will start their tour of the region just a short distance from Newcastle.
55k participants will travel through Derwenthaugh Park until they reach the River Tyne, then following the south side of the river through Gateshead to the farthest eastern point of the route, where runners cross the Tyne using the Millenium Bridge.
Participants then travel west on the north side of the river, using the Hadrians Way and Wylam Wagon Way arriving in Wylam. Then heading south and east participants will cross from the Tyne Valley through Chopwell Woods back into the Derwent Valley, then using the Derwent Walk participants will make their way east to reach the finish line.
The 25km route will also start in within Derwenthaugh Park. Participants will head northeast initially until they reach the River Tyne, then head south to bring them back along the Derwent River heading south west to the 9 arches viaduct on the Derwent Walk.
Then runners climb up the Valley side initially heading north before heading west towards Highfield.
A loop around Rowlands Gill brings participants back to their Derwent Walk where they head east back into Derwenthaugh Park and the finish.
